This program is a parenting program designed to provide parent education
classes specifically for birth or custodial parents who have or are in danger of losing custody of their children or
entering into the foster care system.
|
PEP provides a parenting program that is unique and unduplicated in Orange
County. Specifically, this program will combines in-depth (23 weeks) parenting education and parenting skills with the practical
daily living skills required to help sustain long-term/permanent (successful) family reunifications. Also unique to PEP is
the support to parents once the parenting classes are completed. This support is essential for parents as a vital lifeline,
providing ongoing assistance as they "parent" through the various stages of their children's ages and development and navigate their way out
of the system.
|
Referrals are accepted from Orange County Department of Social Services,
Orange County Family Court and any referring agency within the County to attract and retain those parents that are underserved,
undereducated and economically challenged within the county.
|
The mission of PEP is to redefine parenting and family success by promoting
prevention strategies and positive changes in parenting, family attitudes and behaviors.
|
PEP will honor and respect children and parents and work to empower and
support these families through education, information, resources and advocacy.
|
These goals will be met through the instruction of abuse/neglect prevention
education, the acquisition of realistic life skills and enhanced parenting education. The relationship between PEP and the
Orange County Department of Social Services and other County agencies is vital to the success of these families. Communication
among these entities will increase the chance for real success in the reunification of these families.
